This game has been distributed by Editrice Giochi as the the official game of the Americas Cup 2003.
The game comes with a very big board, divided in 6 pieces to fit inside the box, 6 metal ships with different sets of sails, a special deck of cards, some tokens and other small components.
On the board a grid of dots is superimposed to simulate the movements of the ships on the two side of the sailing field.
Ships were made in metal with cardboard sails and the game components also included a special deck of cards, plastic tokens and a "crew board".
In the picture on the right you can see a detail of the board with two ships on the starting line. The movement of the ships is determined by a special set of cards that must be played following a good strategy in order to gain the maximum advantage from the wind. The most important rules of a match race are simulated and the game comes with 6 ships and different set of sails to simulate also a sailing regatta. The board is very large (almost 1,5 m of length) and the game can be played at different complexity levels. At the lower one allows you can simulate the match race in a very simple way, while the highest level introduces also the crew. Maneuvering becomes more difficult and you need to keep the cards that will let you outmanoeuvre your opponent for the the very right moment of the race. Also the starting duel to get the best position at the beginning is simulated ad a good start can be decisive, like in real match races.
The game was playtested with a member of the crew of "Il Moro di Venezia" the italian ship that won one of the America's cup race in 1992.
