If you really love the history of games:

These are the basic rules of the game.
Players collect money and get infantry reinforcement depending on the size of their empire (that is the number of regions they control on the map). Almost everything in the game has a cost, so it's really important to wisely use the "treasure". Money is represented by plastic Florins (gold and silver) and a player can't never have more than 300 Florins, no matter of the amount of "taxes" he can collect at the beginning of every turn.

After collecting taxes, all the players make a secret offer in order to win the right to have the first choice in getting one of the new Leonardo's incredible projects. Leonardo's projects are shown on cards and are divided in two main categories: great projects (tanks and airplanes) and improvements. The great projects allow players to build tanks and airplanes (represented by plastic pieces), while the improvements can be used to strengthen the army . Every turn the number of projects available is always equal to the number of players less one. Winning the auction is very important because you can also get the Leonardo card.

The player who won the auction gets the Leonardo card and will play first in the next turn, followed by the other players in clockwise order. The playing order is very important because all the players will score Victory Points when all have finished their turn. If you win the auction you get the right to choose first and you also get the Leonardo card (that's worth 2 Vps), but you will be the first to play and this is not an advantage (not to mention that you have probably spent more money compared to other players). During your turn only moving troops is free of charge. Building new castles, towers (to improve a previously built castle), tanks and/or planes has a cost, but also playing cards and invading countries is not free of charge. If you can't pay, you can't play.

When all the players have finished their turn, VPs are scored on the score track. The player controlling most countries scores 2 VPs, the player controlling most castles scores 2 VPs, the player who has the majority of Leonardo's projects (cards) scores 2 VPs, the player whos got Leonardo card score 2 VPs. In case of a tie between two players they score 1 VP each. In case of a tie between more than two players non Vps are scored for that majority. Leonardo card's VPs are the only VPs guaranteed at the end of the turn. Other VPs can be scored thanks to the "Perfect City rule" (a astle with 4 towers) or thanks to some special cards (Leonardo's arts)
After scoring, a new game round begins. Players get reinforcement and collect money. New Leonardo's projects are revealed the players bid and so on. The game ends when a player reaches a predetermined score (by default is 30 but you can choose to play a shorter or longer game).
