The main activity of KG Studio is designing new concepts for the board game market, but some members of the group have developed a great experience also in game editing.
But what does "game editing" exactly mean?
A game is not just a good idea, it needs a long and very complex work to become a product. Many people are involved in this process, from the artists who draw the box cover to the suppliers of the game components, and the job of a game editor is to manage all the needed tasks during the development of a new game. The game editor is not normally in charge for buying the game components, but is the people who must check that everything will fit inside the game box. It's quite common that a game author doesn't have great experience in the printing or moulding process and this can cause a game to be too much expensive to be produced. The game editor must carefully check that this won't happen and to do this, he must know many small and apparently insignificant details.
First of all, a game editor knows that everything has a dimension and sometime underestimating a small detail can produce a waste of cardboard or efficiency in the moulding process. Just to give you an example, cards come always from a very large cardboard sheets from which they are cut and then assembled in decks through an automated process. If the dimensions and quantities of the cards needed are outside the manufacturing standard, this can cause the waste of large amounts of cardboard, with a significant rising in the game's production cost. A good game editor not only knows this, but he also have an idea of the standard differences between the mostly common suppliers and he can make the needed changes to the game components, respecting the game concept, but optimizing the production cost.
All the game publishers have very expert game editors in their offices, but it's really uncommon for a game editor to be also a game author. While a game editor is more technical oriented, the game author is more creativity oriented and it's not always easy to find the right balance between this two important aspects of game manufacturing. This is the reason why KG Studio can provide the highest standards also in game editing. Most of us are game designer as well as game editor, so we can quickly understand what is really needed to edit a new game concept, in order to offer the publisher the best solution between creativity and costs. Not to mention that we can also provide most of the arts needed to transform a good game concept in a great product.
Some publishers have already asked KG Studio to edit some of their games. We'll show the most important examples of what we are doing as soon as they are available for publishing.
